HOOPS FOR HEART comes to Haskin Elemenary School! Mr. Hawkins allowed students to participate in the event during their Physical Education class where they played basketball and earned money for the American Heart Association. Students could earn a Quacky Duck and Lanyard for their participation. This year Haskin set a new record raising over $1900 to help with the fight against cardiovascular disease. Great work Mr. Hawkins!
Miss Stevens and her Haskin 3rd graders took the "Subway Challenge." A child's ability to calculate math facts quickly and efficiently is key to being successful in math as kids move forward in their educational lives. Expectations for math facts are set high at Haskin and students must work hard to meet these goals. Parents are essential to this process as their children need support at home to practice each night in order to be able to calculate math facts quickly and easily. As we approach the home stretch for this school year, we want parents to be aware of the continued need to work on practicing math facts with their children. Second and third graders worked hard to reach the 3rd
quarter Subway Challenge goal. Although it varied slightly between groups
students had to solve at least 20 facts per minute to included in the Subway
Challenge lunch. Students who reached the goal were treated to a Subway
sandwich lunch in the classroom. Students are eager to work to
obtain the 4th quarter goal! Students who qualified for the Subway Challenge
lunch included:
2nd Grade: Teresita Chavez, Rico Garcia, Alanna Garcia 3rd Grade: Daniela Gonzalez, Ricardo Maldonado, Mark Maldonado, Briana Melgar-Miranda, Sergio Sandoval-Serna, Alexis Villagomez, Kelly Gardea, Eduardo Hoguin-Guzman, Karina Maez, Avery Elithorpe, and Cael Ruggles. Nice work Haskin! |
