Teachers in action:
Thanks to all the teachers who made Halloween a successful day. I would like to take some time to recognize Becky Reed and the library staff for making this a special day for all students at Haskin. The children who had library class had a special treat from Ms. Reed. Becky took the time to find a song that engaged students in some singing and dancing. The library staff also provided alternate activities for children who did not participate in the Halloween festivities. Thank you library staff for the support that you provide to Haskin Elementary!
It can't be said often enough, that because of the hard work and commitment of teachers and teacher's assistants, over 70 students are able to receive Lindamood-Bell intensive intervention at various times throughout the day. This vital work is being done by Mr. Swanson, Mrs. Hintz, Mrs. Stecken, Mr. Hawkins, Mr. Noriega, Mrs. Lopez, Mrs. Ortega, and Mrs. Windhorst. Others who join them by teaching After School Academy include Mrs. Vigil, Ms. Stevens, Ms. Vasquez, Ms. Lopez, Mrs. Weatherford, Mrs. Kathy Garcia, and Mrs. Cheryl Garcia. This intervention, along with the whole-group instruction that each classroom teacher presents on a daily basis, continues to contribute to the growth our students are showing in reading and other content areas. Thanks again to all of you who put forth this effort, along with your students! It is making a difference!

pre-school students in action
One of the best aspects of our new building is the fact that we have students from pre-school through 12th grade in one school. For some time, our pre-schoolers have been off in a different building away from the rest of our students. Well, now they are just down the hall from our kindergarteners and not far from everyone else. They may be little, but they do a lot each day guided by their teacher, Mrs. Ramona Vargas, aided by Ms. Meagan Malone. Mrs. Nicole Rockey is the director of the pre-school and she is also actively involved with the children throughout the day. Many Center School staff members entrust their children to the program, which is a very special opportunity for both parent and child. One can sometimes see a pre-schooler sneaking a hug to mom or dad as they walk to the cafeteria with Miss Ramona on their way to pick up breakfast.
core beliefs in action:
EVERYONE must be committed to excellence in ALL they do EVERY day
Everyone at Haskin Elementary has committed to excellence by embracing the content of SB191. The intent of SB191 is to create effective teachers and effective administrators for all kids in Colorado. Haskin teachers took time on Wednesday to examine the new state evaluation system supported by Bloomboard. They took time to compare their professional practice to the State Standards for Colorado Teachers. Because we are a pilot district, we have an opportunity to become familiar with the tool. We also have an opportunity to provide the state with feedback so that we can make this system as valid and effective as possible for all. Haskin Elementary teachers are committed to excellence by embracing SB191, reflecting on their individual practices and making continual improvement.
