CMAS
Every spring, students across Colorado take the state’s
standardized tests in science, math, and language arts. On April 28th and 29th, students at Haskin took the new online Colorado Measure of Academic Success
tests in the following grades and subjects:Social Studies: Grade 4
and Science: Grade 5. The new assessments are based on the Colorado Academic Standards. The Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) are the expectations of what students need to know and be able to do at the end of each grade in each subject. These standards provide the foundation for the skills and knowledge to enable students to be successful in higher education and their chosen careers. These computer-based tests will replace pencil and paper tests. Computer-based assessments allow for more engaging and innovative questions that enable testing of higher-order thinking skills. Haskin kids were very well prepared and did an excellent job.

On April 29th, The Haskin Elementary Chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society celbrated their continuing members and inducted their new members. To be accepted as a member of the Haskin Elementary NEHS, one must meet the standards of
good character, citizenship, leadership, and service. Mrs. Lupita Ortega and Mrs. Sharon Bacon-Windhorst did an excellent job organizing the ceremony and preparing the students for this honor. In addition to the ceremony, Mrs. Ortega and Mrs. Windhorst along with the members did a canned food drive fundraiser this year which was very successful. Thank you for all of the hard work that you did this year. We look forward to your success next year! |
5th Band
On April 30th, Kate Newmyer led our 5th grade students in a band concert that highlighted the skills in percussion, woodwinds and brass. The students performed a variety of skills that they learned throughout the year. Nice work Mrs. Newmyer and 5th graders. |

Elementary concert
The Haskin Elementary Spring Music program was held on May 1st, at 7:00 in the evening. Students in grades Kindergarten through fourth grade performed vocal and instrumental pieces. The Elementary Honor Choir performed, as well. Mr. Swanson did a great job planning the program and preparing our students to deliver a pleasing performance. The concert was very well supported by a large and attentive crowd. Our students really are talented and they did a great job demonstrating their ability to sing and play rhythms.

HOOPS FOR HEART comes to Haskin Elemenary School! Mr. Hawkins allowed students to participate in the event during their Physical Education class where they played basketball and earned money for the American Heart Association. Students could earn a Quacky Duck and Lanyard for their participation. This year Haskin set a new record raising over $1900 to help with the fight against cardiovascular disease. Great work Mr. Hawkins!

Miss Stevens and her Haskin 3rd graders took the "Subway Challenge." A child's ability to calculate math facts quickly and efficiently is key to being successful in math as kids move forward in their educational lives. Expectations for math facts are set high at Haskin and students must work hard to meet these goals. Parents are essential to this process as their children need support at home to practice each night in order to be able to calculate math facts quickly and easily. As we approach the home stretch for this school year, we want parents to be aware of the continued need to work on practicing math facts with their children. Second and third graders worked hard to reach the 3rd quarter Subway Challenge goal. Although it varied slightly between groups students had to solve at least 20 facts per minute to included in the Subway Challenge lunch. Students who reached the goal were treated to a Subway sandwich lunch in the classroom. Students are eager to work to obtain the 4th quarter goal! Students who qualified for the Subway Challenge lunch included:
2nd Grade: Teresita Chavez, Rico Garcia, Alanna Garcia 3rd Grade: Daniela Gonzalez, Ricardo Maldonado, Mark Maldonado, Briana Melgar-Miranda, Sergio Sandoval-Serna, Alexis Villagomez, Kelly Gardea, Eduardo Hoguin-Guzman, Karina Maez, Avery Elithorpe, and Cael Ruggles. Nice work Haskin! |
