First Day of school!
Once again, the first day of school was an exciting event. Teachers waited in rooms they had worked to prepare and students arrived with fancy new shoes and bright new clothes, complimented by stunning smiles. Many parents walked their children into the building looking proud and maybe a little bit relieved (!) knowing their kids would be back in school. Thanks to the custodial staff, the building and grounds looked beautiful. The tech department and cafeteria staff were ready and Mrs. Burch was in her office, ready to take care of anyone who might need her. The day went without a hitch and teachers and students alike hit the ground running. We are off to another wonderful year of working and learning together.
Center Teacher Leaders Guide All Valley PLC's
Several teachers from Haskin Elementary guided the work of educators from several other districts at the RTTTV PLC held at Sangre de Cristo Schools on August 8th and 9th. Kathy Garcia, Jessica Stevens, Ashley Lane, Andy Hawkins and Colleen Hurst were well-prepared to lead the work that was done on curriculum and writing end-of-quarter assessments. Other Haskin teachers are to be commended, as well, for their contributions to the work that was accomplished on those days.
Reading, writing, math and science
Students participating in a math activity.
Haskin Elementary students and staff jumped right into learning. All of the students were engaged in teacher's well planned lessons. Teachers spent time assessing students to ensure that they are getting personalized instruction. Students spent time setting up science journals, participating in math lessons, learning new vocabulary words, reading for fluency and writing some interesting paragraphs all about themselves. What a great week of learning!
Welcome to Haskin
We wish to welcome Mrs. Denise Martinez to our staff. She comes to us from Center Head Start and will be teaching kindergarteners. We are confident that her sixteen years of experience teaching pre-schoolers will be put go good use as she takes some of those same children to the next level in their learning.
Welcome aboard, Denise!
