5th Grade RecognitionThe Fifth Grade Recognition ceremony took place on Wednesday, May 15. This was truly a time for celebration. In my day (wow that saying makes me sound old), the ONLY graduation I ever had in grades K-12 was my high school graduation. I like the idea of having a 5th grade graduation because the students are "graduating" in a sense to a new beginning in middle school and leaving elementary school. As expected graduation is a big deal and there's lots of planning to do. Thank you 5th grade team of Sheryl Pearson, Jeri Trujillo and Honey Stecken for making this celebration possible. The children and their families received a warm welcome. There were many speakers with great words of advice. Johnny Torr and Yamilex Romero did a wonderful job addressing the class. Melissa Garcia was a great guest speaker. The audience enjoyed a presentation of photos of the 5th grade class. Each fifth Grader was then called to the stage to receive some well deserved awards, some for academic achievement and others for the best "fist bump."
This group of students is ending one chapter in their life and beginning another. Thanks to everyone for making this event a huge success! |

Haskin MusiciansUnder the guidance of Gabriel Swanson and Kate Newmeyer, Haskin Elementary music students performed on Thursday, May 16th. Haskin Elementary students receive instruction in song, rhythm and note reading. They gradually improve their skills and are ready to join the band by the time they get to 5th grade. Under the leadership of Gabriel and Kate, our students put on a wonderful display of all their musical talents.

If you can think it, you can say it, if you can say it, you can write it!
Children left 4th grade this year with calloused fingers. When pencils were worn down, the pencils were put into a baggie. You can see here that the children really did "write their fingers to the bone!" Keep up the great work!!
