Haskin Students Participate in Hershey’s Track Meet
The HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games are the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America, with hundreds of thousands of children competing every year. The HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games has produced many Olympic medalists and competing athletes.Simply put, participating in this track meet helps get kids on the right track, teaches lifelong lessons, and students have fun every step, leap, jump and throw along the way. Hershey's track meet in Alamosa was
a success last. Over 100 students from Haskin and Skogland attend
the event, ranging from 9-14 years old. With so many kids involved in the event
we needed 3 buses to take students and adult chaperons
Thank you to Andy, Lu, Brenda, and numerous teachers for making this event possible for our students.

Haskin Elementary Student Council Travels to Pagosa Springs
Haskin Student Council members were rewarded for all of the work that they did throughout the year. Jeri Trujillo took the group of 14 student council members to The Rocky Mountain Wildlife Park in Pagosa Springs. This park is a privately owned facility in operation since 1986. The purpose of the park is to educate people about native Colorado wildlife and provide an opportunity to see these beautiful animals up close in natural habitats.
All of the animals at this park are non-releasable. The park strives to keep them all content and healthy. The children were able to see elk, black bear, porcupine, mountain lions, coyote, wolves and many other animals. One of the main attractions is the grizzly bear. What an awesome site!! Thanks students and teachers who helped make this trip a success!

DIBELS Testing
Haskin Elementary teachers and students are working on completing the last DIBELS benchmark assessment for the year. This test measures the critical skills necessary for successful beginning reading include: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The DIBELS measures assess students on four of these five critical skills, which are often referred to as the “Big Ideas” of reading. All students at Haskin are given the DIBELS test three times each year; usually this occurs in the fall, winter, and spring. Once again, our results thus far show significant gains in the reading skills measured by DIBELS. Great work Haskin students and staff!
