Teachers in Action
2nd through 5th grade teachers took advantage of a wonderful opportunity at Adams State University on Friday. The U.S. Department of Education awarded Adams State University a $3.6 million grant from the Hispanic Serving Institutions STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Because of this grant, Adams State's Zacheis Planetarium received a $400,000 upgrade with a state-of-the-art projection system and new seating. Our students experienced a wonderful half day full of science based activities. A huge thanks to Jeri Trujillo for getting the permission slips ready for all of the students, Diana and the cafeteria staff for packing all of the lunches, and thank you to John Noriega and Shelly Lopez for loading all of the lunches into the buses. Thank you to all of the teachers and teacher assistants who attended the trip and helped make it a successful day for all students who attended.
Students in Action
The students who attended the field trip to Adams State did a wonderful job representing our school. Marcella Garcia, the organizer of the event, commented on how polite and respectful our students were. They participated well, listened to the presenters and undoubtedly learned a lot. We can all be so proud of the way they conducted themselves in front of students, teachers, and administrators from many other Valley schools. Nice job, kids! Upon returning to school, they immediately began writing thank-you notes to the organizers. Many thanks to the teachers who provided the direction for this activity, teaching our students the importance of expressing gratitude to others.
Core Beliefs in Action
“EVERYONE must be committed to excellence in ALL they do EVERY day”
The hustle and bustle that occurs as classrooms get ready for field trips is always extremely exciting. Everyone is gathering materials, taking attendance and making sure that all students have the one item that they must have to participate in a field trip…a permission slip. On Friday, there were two students who did not have permission slips to attend the field trip. One 5th grade student left her slip signed on the counter at home. She was terribly upset and worried. One 2nd grader never got his permission slip signed. Once the office staff, Brenda Montoya and Lupita Ortega, were aware that the students needed assistance, they quickly began to take action. They immediately contacted Jaime Hurtado and had him take the 5th grader home to get her slip. Next, Brenda and Lu quickly and efficiently took immediate action to help the 2nd grade student. They were frantically on their phones and computers making phone calls to any and all family members of this young child. They were committed to excellence in their jobs and were not about to let these students miss their field trip! Brenda and Lu are committed to excellence and they demonstrate excellence in all that they do every day. Thank you for your commitment to students at Haskin!
