Teachers in action
Warning: This posting is not for the squeamish!
Teachers at Haskin provide many learning opportunities for our students. Mrs. Trujillo and Mrs. Pearson lead students in a science lesson as they dissected sheep hearts as part of their unit on the circulatory system. Students approached this activity with some trepidation as they weren't too sure they up for touching these animal parts. But, the teachers worked to keep the focus on the science and they encouraged students to learn from participating in the activity. Well done, teachers and students!

Kids in action:
Haskin students have been participating in Youth Sports at Haskin Elementary. Here are some 4th grade words that describe how much they love sports and the programs that they participate in: “I’m thankful for my coach Valeri, she helped me not to be lazy and get off my booty.” “We do all those exercises so we don’t get fluffy.” “Coach Jon is a very forgiving person. He always talks to us about what we need to do in sports and also in school. Sometimes he yells as loud as a lion roaring in the safari.”
Our kids are learning sportsmanship, team spirit and collaboration from some great youth sports coaches. Great job Haskin kids and coaches!!
core beliefs in action
EVERYONE must be committed to excellence in ALL they do EVERY day
How lucky are we at Haskin Elementary to be able to provide Music and PE for our children? Extremely! There has been excellent teaching in these classrooms every day. Children are safe and well rounded thanks to Gabriel Swanson and Andy Hawkins.
Andy has been implementing the SPARK curriculum daily with fidelity. We know that physical education improves the overall health of children, and also helps improve the self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, responsible behavior and independence of children. Andy gives students the gift of life.
Gabriel has high expectations of himself and his students in music. Why does Gabriel teach music? Not because he expects our students to major in music. Not because he expects them to play or sing all their life. Not so they can relax. Not so they can have fun. But so they will be human. So they will recognize beauty. So they will be sensitive. So they will have something to cling to. So they will have more love, more compassion, more gentleness, more good – in short, more life.
Thank you gentlemen for your commitment of excellence every day!!
