teachers in action
A group of 13 enthusiastic teachers met early Wednesday morning to attend a book study. Teach Like a Champion offers effective teaching techniques to help teachers, become champions in the classroom. The book provides powerful techniques that are concrete, specific, and are easy to put into action the very next day. Teach Like A Champion is excellent reading for Haskin teachers who make every moment count in their classrooms. This book provides a set of tools they can use to become successful in the world’s greatest profession.
Adults at Haskin are continually serving students in ways both big and small. Mrs. Burch, our school nurse, came to the rescue when one of our students was on his way to take his NWEA test when he realized the screw had fallen out of his glasses. He needed his glasses to be able to do well. Even with the brace on her arm, and a need for some special "close up" reading glasses (!), Alice was able to complete the delicate task and repair the glasses for this young man. Whew! What a relief for him as he hurried down the hall to catch up with his class. Thanks, Alice, for your fine work!
KIds in action:
Some students ended this week by taking the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) test in Reading and Math. The students who tested used their time wisely and took the test seriously. Their efforts are paying off. Many students are growing by ten to twenty points. The data that the NWEA assessments provide can lead to amazing growth for learners. Our kids are well on their way! Great job Haskin students! Testing will continue throughout the next two weeks until all grade levels have completed the assessments. Good luck, students and do your best!
Two-hundred students earned the opportunity to participate in Friday's PBIS Incentive activity. Thanks go to those who helped organize and carry out the activity, which included fun activities in the gym (thanks, Mr. Hawkins) and the opportunity for students to prepare and enjoy a snack. The event was a great success, first of all because so many of our students were eligible for the event due to their good behavior throughout the month of November. In addition to demonstrating good behavior in the classroom and throughout the school, they also did an exceptional job during the activity and a good time was had by all. Thanks to everyone, teachers, teacher assistants, and AmeriCorps volunteers for pitching in to make this possible for our students.

Core beliefs in action
As you will recall, at our last staff meeting, we were asked to consider a short-term goal that you could work toward meeting by Christmas break. We are about halfway to break. Please take a moment to consider your goal and assess whether you are on track to reach it. The purpose for setting the goal was to keep up the intensity of our work with the ultimate goal, of course, being to raise student achievement. Are you on track to reach your goal? What have you done so far to ensure that you will meet it? What can you do today to increase your chances of meeting this goal? This type of reflection followed by action is a sure way to demonstrate all of our Core Beliefs. Keep up the good work!
