celebrating success
A highlight of the week was the celebration of the success of the Haskin Elementary turnaround. The folks at Lindamood-Bell planned and presented two different celebratory events. On Thursday morning, the entire student body attended an assembly in the auxiliary gym. Owen Main, of Lindamood-Bell, congratulated students and teachers alike for the tremendous growth that has been made in the school over the past three years, as measured by CSAP/TCAP. Four years ago, Haskin Elementary had received a performance rating of Turnaround, the lowest achievement rating given by the Colorado Department of Education. After implementing a multi-part plan, which included Lindamood-Bell intervention groups and whole-class instruction, Haskin received the highest rating possible, Performance, after just three years.
Mr. Main recognized students receiving small-group instruction for good citizenship and behavior as well as attendance. Nine students were given recognition, which included a framed certificate, a medal, and books, for graduating from small group intervention. This group included for the first time, a student from first grade, who graduated after only one semester of intensive intervention. Teachers were also recognized. Mr. Hawkins and Mr. Swanson were celebrated because of the fact that, as teachers of music and physical education, they are providing the Lindamood-Mood Bell intervention to small groups. We also celebrate the fact that our Teacher Assistants, and even some of our subs, have been trained and deliver instruction, as well. Certainly, a secret to our success is the fact that we have been able to use our resources, including our human resources, to the fullest extent possible.
Thank you, rich and brenda!
As you may know, our laminator has been on the blink. Brenda made some phone calls trying to find someone who could fix it. She got in touch with the manufacturer, who sent instruction booklets and diagrams and talked Rich through the process of replacing a heating element. Thanks to their hard work and expertise we have a working laminator, once again. Actually, it needs a little bit of adjusting, but Rich will see to that soon.
Thank you, Brenda and Rich for getting our laminator working again!
parent/teacher conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held next week, on February 12th and 13th. On Wednesday, February 12th, all students in the district, K-12 will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. Elementary teachers will be contacting parents to schedule conferences, while Middle/High conferences will begin at 3:30 p.m. On Thursday, classes will be held for Middle/High students, with dismissal at 2:00 p.m. There will be no school for elementary students on Thursday. Conferences will be scheduled for parents of elementary students on Thursday, beginning at 7:45 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Please note that if parents attend a conference for their elementary students during the day on Thursday, we ask that they not go upstairs and try to meet with Middle/High teachers, as they will be teaching until 2:00 and conferences will begin for them at 3:30 p.m. Teachers are preparing to meet with parents in order to share winter benchmark test results and classroom work. We look forward to welcoming parents into the school so we can share the details of students' progress.
