Students in action:
Haskin Elementary Students who demonstrated excellent behavior for the month of January gathered together for a special celebration on Friday. There were close to 200 students who got to participate in the festivities. Students gathered in the gym for some active game stations set up by Mr. Hawkins. In the gym, there were scooters, hula hoops and plenty of fun for all. In the cafeteria, students created marshmallow snowflakes. There were many volunteers including Agnes Salazar, JoAnn Lopez, Shelly Lopez, Sharon Windhorst, John Noriega and many classroom teachers who helped organize the festivities. Great job Haskin students, keep up the good work!

teachers in action:
Teachers spent many hours this week doing DIBELS testing in both reading and math. DIBELS is an early literacy screening instrument to determine children who may be at risk for literacy or math problems. It is a series of short tests given to children to monitor and screen their progress in learning some of the necessary skills to become successful readers and mathematicians. DIBELS also enables teachers to screen all students for signs of delay
as part of a preventative approach. By providing good core reading and math
instruction along with differentiated intervention instruction to small groups
of struggling readers and mathematicians , many students will avoid the major
problems they would have faced if the reading or math difficulty had been dealt
with much later. This type of screening
takes time, but is well worth the results.
Thank you Haskin teachers for taking the time to administer this test
for kids.
core beliefs:
"If a doctor, lawyer or dentist had 40 people in his office at one time, all of whom had different needs, and some of whom didn't want to be there and were causing trouble, and the doctor, lawyer or dentist, without assistance, had to treat them all with professional excellence for nine months, then he might have some concept of a classroom teacher's job."
