Teachers in actionThe Haskin Elementary Sunshine Committee hosted a Banana Split Party on the afternoon of October 17th. Several members of the Committee arrived at school early so they could leave invitations and bananas throughout campus, for every district employee. It was a great opportunity for folks to sit and visit with one another, while enjoying a delicious treat. Many thanks to all who made this event possible and thanks also to everyone for attending. |

students in actionKindergarten students have many things to learn. Their first experience in the "big school" can be challenging, with high expectations for learning content, as well as the need to learn the rules and procedures of school. One has only to watch these children walking through the hallway on their way to or from recess, lunch or specials, to see that progress they are making. With their arms crossed and bubbles in their mouths, they are doing a great job meeting hallway expectations. Their academics are coming right along, as well. DIBELS progress monitoring and end-of-quarter assessments show a great deal of growth. Here is a clip of students in Mr. Koerber's class using movement to learn to identify vowels as they recite the alphabet.

Core beliefs in Action:
Quality planning, instruction, and assessments lead to high achievement for ALL students
Last week our awesome teachers spent the week administering District Quarterly Assessments. Assessing students as part of teaching has many benefits. It can help both the students and teachers understand which skills or ideas should be emphasized in lessons. Assessments can guarantee that the activities in the classroom match up with what the students need to learn. District Quarterly assessments also create a stronger focus on the students’ learning abilities, as well as open the door for collaboration with other teachers or with the educational institution at large. Taking the time to administer, grade and plan according to the results from the assessments will lead to high achievement for all students at Haskin Elementary.
