sweep writing awards |
Awards were given to the top writers for the August SWEEP assessment. The prompt had students chose a time when they had to be brave. They described the circumstance in which they found themselves and how they demonstrated their bravery. Scary situations requiring brave actions included seeing a fox, skiing down a steep hill, and having to have blood drawn. Although these students were selected as top writers at their grade level, every student at Haskin completed the assessment and the hallways are lined with many stories of bravery. Be sure to check them out! |
creede repertory theaterOn Monday, October 28th, the student body of Haskin Elementary enjoyed another great performance by the Creede Repertory Theater. The play, entitled Viva, la Agua!, included an explanation of the water cycle, a dinosaur skeleton come to life, and several sightings of la Llorona! Oooh, scary!
Students were delighted by performance. They laughed and participated when invited to do so. Following the performance, we visited with the actresses. They shared that they had performed for students around the state, including the Denver area, and that the students of Haskin were the best audience they had had, by far. They explained that many times students talk throughout the performance, with little regard for the actors. Our students, however, were respectful and fully engaged in the story. When it was time to quiet down, they did so and they expressed their approval through loud applause at the end of the play. We couldn't' be more proud of our students or more grateful to the CRT for offering the performance on our campus. Thanks are also in order for parents who helped support the performance by sending money to school to pay for the play. |

Haskin students were rewarded for their excellent behavior at school. Students who had zero office referrals and zero orange tickets were welcome to attend an amazing performance by a band from Ghana, Africa called Logo Ligi. The three man band performed on conga drums decorated from their homeland. The band was full of fun and energy that spilled over into the audience of Haskin students. We had students dancing in the isles and in their seats. It was a fantastic way to award the students who behave daily at Haskin. We appreciate their STAR Student behavior.
