5th Grade TCAP practice
"Data analysis
in schools involves collecting data and using available data for the purpose of
improving teaching and learning." Teachers spent the week administering practice TCAP tests to students at Haskin Elementary. The teachers set up the environment so the students felt very close to what test day will feel like. After grading the tests, the teachers will be doing an item analysis to identify key skills that students need to perfect prior to TCAP. The teachers were also noting test taking strategies that they will teach explicitly prior to the big test day. Thank you Haskin teachers for taking the time to administer this test to gather data to improve our teaching. Many teachers began the Spring semester of Lindamood Bell After School Academy and After School Math Academy. These are successful programs and would not be possible without quality teachers selflessly giving their time to serve our students.

Our students had many things to celebrate this week. We had six students graduate from Lindamood Bell. Their test scores have reached grade level or above grade level. The children who graduated received books, pencils and a reading medal. Their success was celebrated on Thursday at an all school assembly. Another group that was celebrated was the winners of December SWEEP. The students wrote to a narrative prompt in December and their organization and creativity shone through. These students won a bag of goodies and a monetary prize donated by Del Norte Bank! Students also anxiously attended After School Academy. They are engaged and becoming more and more responsible for their own learning. Keep up the good work students!

"EVERYONE must be committed to excellence in ALL they do EVERY day."
Haskin Elementary teachers and administrators spent last week meeting for a mid year evaluation. Teachers and administrators began to take a close look at the professional practices identified by the new Educator Effectiveness Rubric. We used this rubric because every child in every classroom deserves to have excellent teachers and excellent building leaders who are supported in their ongoing professional growth. After comparing beginning of the year self-evaluation scores with middle of year administration scores, Haskin teachers will set two goals. One goal is centered around student achievement and the other is centered around professional growth. Setting goals lays the groundwork for on-going conversations, feedback and support. Having clear goals will also allow us to create the best path to meeting these goals. Committing to excellence in education by taking the feedback from the rubric and applying it to daily professional practice will ensure success for all.
